Credentials & Memberships
No matter what level athlete or fitness enthusiast you are, sports medicine can help you recover from an athletic injury and learn how to prevent the injury from happening again. For your convenience, our fully equipped orthopedic facilities offer a team of talented sports medicine professionals to help you get back in the game as quickly and safely as possible.
Most injuries are a result of minor trauma to muscles, ligaments, and/or tendons. Symptoms include immediate localized swelling, pain, and/or discoloration.
Some sports injuries may affect the growth plate. The growth plate is the area of developing tissues at the end of the long bones in growing children and adolescents. When growth is complete, sometime during adolescence, the growth plate is replaced by solid bone.
Pain injuries such as stress fractures (a hairline fracture of the bone that has been subjected to repeated stress) and tendinitis (inflammation of a tendon) can occur from overuse of muscles and tendons. These overuse injuries in young athletes are most commonly seen in the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle.
